It’s Antoinette Ferwerda and I’d like to share the Skull art story, which of course is inspired by the humankind, but it is my love letter to humanity and each Skull is an emblem of life.
It’s life-affirming and a reminder that we are filled with colour and joy and personality and imaginations.
So, each hemisphere in every Skull painting is a mirror image of the other.
So, the Skulls aim to draw the viewer in for some quiet contemplation and just to reflect upon how beautiful life is.
The Skull art story is, at its heart, a loving tribute to humanity. Flipping a symbol typically associated with death and the macabre on its head, Antoinette sees the human skull as a fundamental equaliser. Each piece is like a portrait viewed in X-ray, looking beneath the skin to the liveliness, joy and emotion within a person and creating a mirror for each viewer to connect with on a deeper level.
