Hi it’s Antoinette Ferwerda and I’d like to share with you my Champagne Poppies art story.
It is inspired by an actual flower, called the Arctic Poppy, and that’s also known as ‘Champagne Bubbles’.
The petals of this Champagne Bubbles Poppy are really large and they seem to float on a tiny stem.
So, my Champagne Poppy paintings attempt to emulate the dancing of these petals and the living form, so the blooms seem to explode from the canvas.
Presenting poppies in an expansive manner, flowers are dissected and displayed as transparent images loaded with frenetic activity. Black backgrounds are in stark contrast to the soft, painterly nature of petals, viewed in an expanded context like looking into the universe.
