It’s Antoinette Ferwerda and I’d like to share with you my Hills art story, which is one of my longest running and most sentimental art stories.
The Hills is my abstract interpretation of the Australian landscape.
I have always loved the way that light and shadow fall upon the land and have fond memories of countryside drives and trips where I have been able to see various parts of Australia, and I feel very lucky that we live in such a beautiful country.
The Hills themselves are a rhythmical and joyous celebration, I think, of the Australian Landscape.
One of Antoinette’s longest running art stories, Hills is both sentimental and striking. Its abstract, stylised landscapes are created using repeated arch shapes in bold colours and unexpected compositions. The arches themselves can’t be defined as just one thing - where one person sees the titular hills, another sees architectural structures or rainbows, opening each piece up to the whims of viewer interpretation.
For Antoinette, the hills are evocative of landscapes both real and imagined.
